So you’re in Madinah Alhamdulillah. And we all think to ourselves “We got to make the best use of our time!!”
But let’s face it, after day 1, we struggle to find productive things to do. It becomes “easy” to spend another hour chit chatting over breakfast, or convincing yourself to spend an additional hour shopping and lo and behold, before you know it all you’re doing is praying the 5 daily prayers in the Masjid and that’s about it.
But this is Madinah! The city of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw)!
Most of us like a system; a routine; a simple list of steps we can follow. Hence I’ve tried to come up with a simple morning routine, that just in the first 2 hours of the morning will earn your more rewards than an entire day inshaAllah!
Print this out, stick it up on your hotel room wall and follow it every day you are in Madinah.
4:15am – wake up, make wudhu, leave for mosque
4:30am – pray tahajjud
4:45am – Fajr Adhaan (click to listen to the Adhaan I recorded)
- Pray Sunnah for Fajr (reward is more than the world and what it contains)
- Pray Fajr with the Imam (reward is 10 x 27 x 1000 = 27000)
- Pray Janazah salah (reward is equal to the size of mountain of Uhud)
- Stay in mosque and wait for sunrise. Read Quran or make dhikr
6.15am – after sunrise pray 2 units of Salat Ad-Duha
Some Benefits of Praying Salat Ad-Duha
- It fulfils sadaqah on every joint in your body.
“In the morning every single joint of yours must pay a sadaqah (charity). Every SubhanAllah is a sadaqah, every Alhamdulillah is a sadaqah, every La Ilaha Illa Allah is a sadaqah, every Allahu Akbar is a sadaqah, every commanding good is a sadaqah, and every forbidding evil is a sadaqah, and all this is accomplished through two rak`ats one can pray in Duha.” [Muslim]
Note: This means that the two rak’ahs is sufficient as a charity on behalf of every joint in the body. - It is the prayer of the righteous.
“None is assiduous in keeping Salat al-Duha except one who is oft-repentent (awwab), and it is the prayer of the oft-repentent (wa hiya Salat al-Awwabin).” [Ibn Khuzaymah, sahih according to the conditions of Imam Muslim] - It was an advice from the Messenger himself to his companions.
Abu Hurayrah: “My beloved (the Messenger) instructed me never to leave three things until I die: fasting three days of the month, praying Salat al-Witr before sleep, and praying the 2 rak`ats of Salat al-Duha.” [Musnad Ahmad]
6:30am – go for breakfast
7:00am – have a nap
There you go. From 4.15 am to 6.30 am and you could be loading those rewards on your scales of good deeds. How Great and Generous is Allah. Allahu Akbar!
A few photos that I took on the roof yesterday morning. As you can see, there are many who seek the benefit of this blessed time.
Tip: Spending the mornings on the roof of Masjid al Nabawwi is an absolute experience. I strongly recommend it.
Have more tips? Let me know in comments below? I will post a similar routine for Makkah inshaAllah
Good work, keep it up. May Allah SWT reward you best here and hereafter.
